What is the difference between NPN and PNP proximity sensors?
NPN sensors switch the negative (sinking) output while PNP sensors switch the positive (sourcing) output. Most PLCs in Asian markets use NPN inputs, while European systems typically use PNP. Kalen Automation supplies both types for all sensor models.
How do I choose between diffuse, retro-reflective and through-beam photoelectric sensors?
Diffuse reflective sensors are the easiest to install and suit short-range detection. Retro-reflective sensors offer medium range using a reflector. Through-beam sensors provide the longest range and highest stability for demanding applications. Our engineers can help you select the right type for free.
What is the difference between shielded and non-shielded proximity sensors?
Shielded (flush) sensors can be embedded in metal but have a shorter sensing distance. Non-shielded (non-flush) sensors offer longer sensing distance but require free space around the sensing face.
